Moulds for retaining walls
Multiple solutions for precast L-, U-, T- and A-shaped retaining walls
Construx-Weckenmann offers a range of versatile mould systems for the production of precast concrete retaining walls in various configurations, including L-shaped, U-shaped, T-shaped, and A-shaped elements. Depending on production goals, available space, and concrete specifications, upside-down, side-cast, and front-cast methods are available—each with tailored mould solutions and optional automation.
Multiple Casting Techniques for Retaining Wall Elements
Upside-Down Casting
This is the most commonly used approach in high-volume precast retaining wall production.
- Moulds allow for casting multiple elements simultaneously
- All exposed surfaces are fair-faced, except the base, which remains hidden
- Chamfers, tongue and groove joints, or custom side profiles can be easily integrated
- Manual, mechanical (gearbox) or hydraulic systems are available for:
- Opening and closing moulds
- Locking/unlocking sideforms and stop-ends
Turning the elements post-demoulding is required:
- Can be done via mechanical or vacuum lifting systems
- Or using a fully rotatable mould for one-step demoulding and rotation
Element length and leg dimensions can be adjusted using flexible insert systems.
Side-Cast Moulds
- Designed for one element per mould
- Not ideal for multi-element batching
- Straightforward, low-cost design, space-efficient
- Chamfers can be easily applied, but tongue and groove features are difficult to integrate
- If high output is needed, multiple moulds must be used—but they require more floor space
Front-Cast Moulds
- Consist of a horizontal base with a fixed vertical form and an opposing vertical counter-form
- Allows excellent access for pouring and finishing
- Typically cast in the same orientation as installed on-site—no turning needed
- However:
- Not compatible with self-compacting concrete
- Standard concrete must be poured carefully to avoid defects
- One face (usually the internal side) will not be fair-faced
- For tapered edges, easy and quick demoulding is possible, enabling multi-element production
